Warrick Pathways & Career Center

The Warrick County School Corporation recognized the need to provide a facility that could integrate academic and technical training in specialized fields to prepare Junior and Senior students in their career pursuits prior to graduating high school. The Warrick Pathways & Career Center (WPCC) is a 43,653 square foot state of the art technical school offering eight career pathways in three distinct career fields- Advanced Manufacturing, Health Science, and Heavy Machinery. Students interested in a pathway attend either the morning or afternoon session. Students in the morning session start the first two hours of their day at the WPCC attending classes in their chosen career path. When the first two hours are over, the morning session students then return to their home high school to complete the rest of their standard classes (math, science, English, social studies, etc.). Similarly, the afternoon session students start their day at their home high school and finish the last two hours of their school day at the WPCC. The facility has a large commons area used for student collaboration and engagement as well as specialized classrooms and labs for each carrier field. The Health Science field has two specialized labs, one is designed to mirror hospital and emergency room settings with patient beds, headwalls with medical gas connections, and privacy curtains to support the Pre-Nursing and EMT pathways. The second lab is set up like a traditional testing lab to support the Bio-Medical Science pathway. The Health Science field also has a specialized classroom to support the Physical Therapy and Exercise Science pathway. The Advanced Manufacturing field has three specialized pathway labs- Precision Machining, Industrial Maintenance, and Welding. Each lab has large interior glass windows that allow for observation from the corridors and adjacent classrooms. Due to the additional clear height required in the Advanced Manufacturing and Heavy Machinery Labs, the floor level at this end of the building was lowered by 4’-0” requiring ramps and stairs inside the building. Lower the floor level at this end of the building worked will with the site as the existing grades allowed for direct access into these labs so machinery and equipment could be easily moved in and out of the building.
