Conceived for a European businessman, his family of four, and frequent overnight guests, the home is thoughtfully tailored to its users. The house is set on a dramatic, sloping site that offers sweeping views of the Long Island Sound. Its form is carefully integrated with the existing topography and natural features, fostering a sense that the structure has grown organically from the land. Organic Integration with the Landscape The Sea Cliff Residence is designed to appear as though it emerges naturally from its environment, seamlessly connecting the home to its surroundings through the use of terraces and outreaching walls. This organic siting grounds the house within the landscape and anchors its presence on the steep, wooded slope overlooking the Long Island Sound. Arrival and Circulation The approach to the home is conceived as a “pathway of discovery.” Entry begins with a crossing over a loggia bridge, unveiling a vista down the ridge. A turn leads to the discreet front door, which opens into a compressed entry space featuring an interior water element that guides the eye and movement toward the family room. This central space extends out to a balcony above the infinity pool, offering uninterrupted views across the landscape to the Sound beyond. Use of Natural Materials and Integrated Design Natural materials are employed throughout the house, reinforcing its connection to the environment. Every element of the design is considered as part of an integrated whole, ensuring a cohesive and harmonious architectural expression. Client and Site Context Design Philosophy and Experience Rather than exposing every space to the water views, the design creates a spectrum of environments, from expansive terraces reaching out toward the landscape to intimate, sheltered spaces nestled within.
