Designed with ambition, the new National Park visitor desks serve as a welcoming beacon for guests arriving at the park’s museum. From the sculptural form of the welcome desk—directly inspired by the Arch above—to the seamlessly integrated ticketing stations, every detail is crafted to shine. Utilizing durable materials, thoughtful accessible design, and flexible workspaces, the desks are built to stand the test of time while functioning as a quiet extension of the museum.
As part of a comprehensive initiative to improve visitor services and enhance the guest experience, the National Park Museum has introduced four newly designed desks throughout its public spaces. These desks were developed to serve distinct operational roles while responding thoughtfully to their spatial contexts. Each was fabricated using durable, high-performance materials selected for their refined aesthetic, resilience, and ease of maintenance. Equal emphasis was placed on universal accessibility, with every desk designed to allow all visitors—regardless of physical ability—to comfortably engage with staff and services. The main reception desk, situated just inside the museum’s entrance, serves as the central point of contact for arriving guests. It was intentionally designed to sit quietly within the space—elegant and present but not overpowering. Drawing subtle inspiration from Eero Saarinen’s architectural language, the desk echoes the Arch’s soft curves and westward orientation. Rather than assert itself visually, the desk integrates seamlessly into the broader architectural environment, acting as a refined backdrop that supports, rather than competes, with the overall spatial experience. A key functional feature is the built-in wheelchair storage, fully integrated into the desk’s body. This discreet solution allows staff to provide mobility aids quickly and efficiently, enhancing accessibility without compromising clean lines or visual clarity. Two new ticketing desks replace outdated fixtures and improve visitor service flow throughout the museum. Both share a consistent design language, featuring clean lines and sleek, durable materials that harmonize with the existing architectural palette. The first is located on the upper level, while the other is positioned in the lower-level rear area to provide convenient ticketing access for visitors who decide to visit the Arch later in their visit, without retracing their steps to the main entrance. The restrained detailing and thoughtfully proportioned forms allow these desks to blend seamlessly into their environments, enhancing operational efficiency while maintaining the museum’s cohesive aesthetic.
