The new Esperanza Brighton Park Health Center is a memorable two-story-tall, 43,450-square-feet facility that houses expanded medical health services, comprehensive senior programming, and a family medicine residency program. The new building expands the client's presence in the Brighton Park community on Chicago’s South Side to encompass an entire city block, forming a new civic plaza in concert with an earlier facility at the north end of the site. Planned as a “health campus,” multiple indoor and outdoor spaces create opportunities to promote health, learning, and recreation for the community that builds on the services provided within the complex. The building’s lively façade is clad in bright yellow and gray metal panels with a rhomboid pattern that recalls the panels and canted ends of the earlier Red Building. Color is an important element throughout the complex. The yellow and gray palette complements the client's earlier Red Building. Inside, color provides identity for individual areas with bold accents in orange, blue, yellow, and plum aiding in navigation throughout the facility. Acoustical clouds in the same palette mark the ceilings in the larger public spaces. The plaza provides a unique opportunity that encourages fitness and wellness beyond the boundaries of the building. The outdoor gathering space promotes and enables exercise and enables healthy activities that can bring together people from throughout the community.
