A wonderful gift for women and communities: The Women’s Health Clinic is at a major hospital in downtown Chicago, expertly planned within an existing building from the 1960s. It allows consolidation of Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic, Maternal Fetal Medicine Practice, and Urogynecology Services. The Department mission is to grow and improve women's health through innovative and compassionate care, education, advocacy, and discovery. Tasked with maximizing Program to Area and with creating a space that "lets the sun shine" for women, the design team was able to provide 21 new exam rooms, 2 procedure rooms, Clean and Soiled Utility, multiple single-user toilet rooms, 2 Point of Care spaces, and shared working spaces for staff. Circulation space was minimized, and adjacencies were planned to provide single directional flow for patients, and maximum efficiency for care providers. The New Suite has an attractive central core which sets the tone for the use of modern and inviting light fixtures, wall panels, special floor pattern, and in overall creating a striking focal point of arrival and access to the various spaces. In women’s health, where there could be a lot of stress and turmoil regarding outcomes, the environment is uplifting and detracts attention in a positive way. The Architect is the Prime Consultant leading a team of consultants and performing Programming, Full Architectural Services and Construction Administration.
