Overview
Wally's Goodyear is a contemporary Mid Century Modern family friendly luxury travel center. This unique concept requires an iconic design. Using strong geometric forms and grand interior spaces, guests are welcomed and recognize the familiar style and function. Natural look materials inside and out and horizontal banding maintain design continuity. Many guests have commented “they’ve never seen anything like this” and “you have to see the space to appreciate the scale.”
Wally's Goodyear is a new interpretation of a vintage concept, an oasis for the Great American Road Trip focused on family friendly travel. Our approach, reinforce this concept with a contemporary interpretation of Mid Century Modern Architecture. To achieve this, we used strong geometric forms and massing to define this building and human scale. The signature vault roof cantilevers beyond the gable. The main building is capped with a stepped parapet with strong horizontal elements reinforcing the linear aspect of the building and prairie setting. Minor elements wrap the corners further emphasizing the linear quality and breaking down the massing to a human scale. The entry elements emphasize the lower massing and linear elements while transparent to the interior. The glass allows outside elements to enter while also allowing a visual connection to inside elements. Wood panels at the entry elements wrap to the inside and additional wood panel elements are used throughout. Large rectangular stone panels on the exterior are stack bonded, recalling Mid Century Modern elements. Ceiling treatment orients the eye toward the vault maintaining the connection of both spaces on either side of the vault. Linear banding from the exterior is brought to the interior tile. All of this to maintain design continuity and connection to the Mid Century Modern style.
