Isles Pavilions
PKA Architecture · Minneapolis, MN
Overview
When the clients acquired an unusually wide site overlooking an urban lake, they commissioned the architecture firm to design a modern home with a sense of history and character. The architects responded to the clients’ vision with a collection of pavilions inspired by traditional country homes in Belgium, Holland and England. The interiors reflect a timeless European aesthetic with stone and wide plank wood floors, plaster walls, floor-to-ceiling bookshelves and other traditional details.
When the clients acquired a lot overlooking an urban lake, they commissioned the architecture firm to design a modern home with a sense of history and character. The architects responded to the clients’ vision and the unusually wide, steep site with a collection of pavilions inspired by traditional country homes in Belgium, Holland and England. Designed to match the scale of the adjacent home, an iconic 1953 brick Cape Cod designed by Minnesota architect Edwin Lundie, the new home sits quietly on the site. The interiors reflect a timeless European aesthetic with stone and wide plank wood floors, plaster walls, floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, a handmade English dining table and other traditional details.
